Teer is played in places called counters and clubs. These are like lively meeting spots where the sound of bows and arrows matches the beat of a united community. It’s not just about winning; it’s about sharing skills and traditions.

History Of Teer Game
The origin of teer is not precisely documented. The game has been played for generations, and its history is deeply intertwined with the traditions and customs of the region. While the exact historical details may be unclear, there are several local myths and legends that attempt to explain the origin of teer.
One common belief is that teer has its roots in ancient hunting practices. According to this legend, the Khasi people, known for their skills in archery, used teer-like games as a means of honing their hunting abilities. Over time, this practice evolved into a form of entertainment and competition within the community.
Another story attributes the origin of teer to a local deity or spirit. According to this story, a spirit or god introduced the game to the Khasi people, emphasizing the values of skill, precision, and community participation. As the game gained popularity, it became a cultural and social activity.
While these stories contribute to the cultural narrative surrounding teer, the precise historical details remain somewhat elusive. Teer has become more organized over the years. The game not only serves as a form of entertainment but also plays a role in the social fabric of the Khasi community, fostering camaraderie and a sense of identity.

How Does the Teer Tradition Works?
There are two rounds daily. In the first round, 50 archers shoot 30 arrows each at a target. The second round involves 30 archers shooting 20 arrows each.
Then, people bet. You don’t directly bet on who wins the archery competition. Instead, you try to predict the last two digits of the total number of arrows that hit the target in each round.
After this, the result is declared and winners are rewarded. After the arrows are shot, the number of hits are counted. If your guess for the last two digits matches the actual total, you win!
Regulations on Teer
# Legality
Teer is legal. It’s associated with archery associations and cultural heritage. The issue lies in betting on the outcome.
# Regulation
There’s currently no official regulatory body overseeing Teer betting. This lack of oversight can lead to concerns about fairness and transparency. Though there are associations that conduct the official Teer archery events, their role doesn’t extend to regulating the betting aspect.
# Governance Attempts
